Today, August 12th, staff and students of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies participated in a comprehensive workshop organized by Uganda Reproduction Rights Organisation (URRO), Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), and Writers-Authors Investment Company (WAIC) Ltd. During the session, attendees were guided through their exclusive rights as authors, including the processes involved in commercializing authored material. Participants gained insights into various forms of intellectual property rights, notably copyright and neighbouring rights, which encompass legal frameworks such as the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act Cap. 222, economic rights, and moral rights.

This training aimed to strengthen authorship capacity within the institution and promote the availability and accessibility of Ugandan-authored books both locally and internationally. Participants learned about the significant value of writing as a creative and economic activity and discovered that there are legal protections in place to safeguard literary works. Additionally, members were informed that writing can be a profitable investment sector, with potential for commercial success and intellectual property revenue generation.
