Ankole Western University Library: Unleashing an Optimistic Future Through Excellence.
The transformation of the Ankole Western University Library stands as a testament to the University’s commitment to a future-focused learning environment.
At the heart of this advancement is the Library’s subscription to the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries, granting both students and staff access to an extensive range of A–Z academic databases and high-quality electronic resources. These resources are conveniently accessible through myLOFT (My Library on FingerTips), enabling users to engage with scholarly materials anytime and anywhere.
Dedicated library staff are readily available to assist users in creating accounts and maximising the benefits of these digital tools.
The Library now features a well-equipped IT section with reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, fostering a digitally enabled study environment. Operating from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the facility offers flexible access to accommodate diverse students’ schedules.
In response to the growing students enrollment, the Library’s seating capacity has been expanded from 100 to 200 users, providing a more spacious, comfortable, and conducive atmosphere for study and research. This expansion is complemented by enhanced customer service, ensuring a more responsive and user-centred experience.
Significantly, the Library has adopted the KOHA Integrated Library Management System, streamlining access to physical resources and simplifying cataloguing, searching, borrowing, and returning of materials. This system has greatly improved efficiency in book circulation, making the borrowing process faster and more convenient for registered users.
Additionally, the Library has strengthened its user engagement through improved notification system. Registered users now receive timely updates on new acquisitions, services, and developments directly via email, keeping them continuously informed and connected.
Since the upgrade, over 200 users have been successfully registered and served. The Library team remains committed to encouraging both students and staff to take full advantage of these developments by stepping up to register.
Through both quantitative expansion and qualitative enhancement, the Ankole Western University Library is not only evolving, it is redefining the academic experience, empowering learners, and unleashing a truly optimistic future.
