Today, AWU broadened its Annual Mission Week outreach to Kigarama Archdeaconry in Mitooma District.

The guest speaker, Archbishop Emeritus Dr. Henry Luke Orombi, delivered a sermon from the Gospel of Luke 10:25-37, which tells the story of the Good Samaritan.

Dr. Orombi urged Christians to look beyond their differences and focus on helping those in need. He called on the congregation to follow the example of the Good Samaritan by showing compassion, love, and offering practical help to those suffering.

He also encouraged them to forge meaningful friendships with people who can support, challenge, and motivate them to live good and purposeful lives.

During the outreach, Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, urged parents to take advantage of the improved educational opportunities available in the region and to prioritize their children’s schooling.

He emphasized that investing in education is a more solid foundation for the future than spending resources on dowries for sons. He urged parents to channel their resources into education, which will pay off in the long run.

Young people were also encouraged to support their parents with whatever they can, stay in school, and study hard. Rt Hon Tayebwa highlighted the opportunity to pursue higher education through the subsidized tuition fees at Ankole Western University.

As part of his commitment to AWU MISSION WEEK, Tayebwa purchased 100 marathon kits for the 3rd Annual AWU Marathon, set for Saturday, 19 September 2026, at Kabwohe Playground.

The university plans to extend its mission to Bugongi and Ryakasinga archdeaconries under the theme: “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Stability, and Peace” – Ephesians 2:11-22.
