Today Thursday, August 7, the Chancellor of Ankole Western University, The Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, paid a special visit to the campus to welcome and inspire the 2025 intake of first-year students. His address, filled with wisdom, spiritual insight, and life principles, affirmed AWU’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also holistic, Christ-centered education.
The Chancellor, delivered a powerful message underlining the unique purpose of every student. “You are here to prepare to be someone from whom humanity shall benefit,” he emphasized.
He challenged the students to pursue innovation, contribute meaningfully to existing knowledge, and aim to do what has never been done before in both quality and quantity.
Bishop Twinomujuni urged students to develop a strategic plan for their lives, set clear goals, and make intentional choices. He highlighted the importance of discipline and integrity, stating that success requires doing the right things and doing them the right way. “You cannot achieve anything without a sound mind and a healthy body,” he warned, cautioning students against habits and influences that could harm their well-being.
Quoting Philippians 4:13, he reminded students of the spiritual foundation upon which the university is built: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
His heartfelt wish was that each student would one day graduate not just with a degree, but with a strong character and clear purpose.

In a rare and spiritually enriching opportunity, the Chancellor was accompanied by Bishop Samuel George Egesa of Bukedi Diocese. Bishop Egesa also addressed the fresh students, drawing from 2 Timothy 2:4 to encourage them to remain focused on their mission. “No one serving as a soldier entangles himself with civilian affairs,” he said, urging students to prioritize their studies and spiritual growth over distractions.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Andrew Ainomugisha acknowledged the significance of this dual episcopal presence, stating, “It is a rare opportunity to have two Bishops address fresh students. This speaks volumes about the foundation of Ankole Western University rooted in Christian values and visionary leadership.
