Today Monday, August 11, Fresh students at Ankole Western University (AWU) were treated to an inspiring and thought-provoking session led by Ms. Busingye Peace, the Principal Education Officer in the Department of Guidance and Counselling at the Ministry of Education.
In her address, Ms. Busingye offered invaluable insights on how to make the most of university life not only to achieve academic excellence but also to prepare for life beyond the lecture halls. She reminded students that while passing exams is essential, success at university is much broader.
“While passing exams is crucial, it’s not the only thing that matters,” she emphasized. “Engage in your studies intelligently learn, prioritize, and perform. As you aim for an excellent graduation outcome, make sure to invest time in building meaningful relationships and embracing good values.”
Drawing from her wealth of experience as a life counsellor, Ms. Busingye encouraged students to develop the discipline, soft skills, and practical abilities that the modern job market demands. She particularly urged young women to strive for self-reliance and professional independence, rather than depending solely on future partners for support.
Her talk also covered personal grooming, healthy relationship building, and how to present oneself as a respectful and desirable future partner. These practical life lessons were delivered with warmth and authenticity, resonating deeply with the audience.
Speaking as both a successful mother and a dedicated mentor who has guided thousands of young people in Uganda, Ms. Busingye’s message aligned seamlessly with AWU’s Core Value of Christ-Centredness, Academic Excellence, Integrity, Diligence, Transparency, and Teamwork.
The session was not only a call to academic diligence but also an invitation to embrace personal growth, moral integrity, and the kind of well-rounded development that transforms students into impactful professionals and responsible citizens.
