On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Dr. Andrew Ainomugisha, the Vice Chancellor of Ankole Western University, invited Professor Emmanuel Karooro and his wife for a fellowship with the university staff. This gathering followed a recent visit by the university management to Bishop Emeritus William Magambo, during which it was revealed that Professor Karooro was the first person to donate 1(one) million shillings, kickstarting Ankole Western University. Later, he became the university’s inaugural Vice Chancellor, and his contributions have been pivotal to the institution’s development.
During the fellowship, heartfelt stories were shared by those who had worked alongside him, complemented by Professor Karoro himself, who reminisced about the visions he held for Ankole Western University. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ainomugisha for inviting him back. “Webare Dr Andrew kunyeta ntarweire kandi nkiriho kugaruka aha University egi… I never imagined that after so many years, you would be the one to bring this kind of development to the University,” said Professor Karoro.
Professor Karooro’s wife also shared her deep appreciation for the University Management’s gesture of acknowledging their contributions while they were still alive. “Kuri oba okiriho, abantu bakakugamba ebintu ebiwakozire okibihuriire,” she remarked.
These kinds of visits are an integral part of the Vice Chancellor’s strategy to uncover the true potential of Ankole Western University by listening to its founders and early leaders. This dialogue will pave the way for future developments, staff training, courses enhancement, and strategic planning for the university.
